There are three important sets of examinations during the EC1 school year:

  1. Internal December examinations in all subjects to assess progress
  2. Internal end-of-year examinations in all subjects to determine promotion
  3. External end-of-year Cambridge ESOL English B2 First (FCE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE) examinations, and Pearson IGCSE French examinations

During these examination periods, regular classes do not take place as usual. Students and parents will be provided with a detailed timetable for each of the three periods in advance.

External examinations

Students in classes EC1 D, E and F prepare for the Cambridge ESOL C2 Proficiency (CPE) exam. Students who earn the C2 Proficiency (CPE) certificate are deemed to have a level of English similar to that of native speakers. The C2 Proficiency (CPE) is the highest level general Cambridge certificate.

The C2 Proficiency (CPE) examination consists of two components:

  1. Oral: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL
  2. Listening/writing/reading/grammar: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL

Students in classes EC1 A, B and C prepare for the Cambridge B2 First (FCE) examination. Students must pass the Cambridge B2 First (FCE) examination in June in order to continue to EC2.

The B2 First (FCE) examination consists of two components:

  1. Oral: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL
  2. Listening/writing/reading/grammar: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL

Students register for the B2 and C2 exams in class with the help of their teacher. On registering, students must provide a valid email address. Email will serve as the main form of communication between Cambridge ESOL in Winterthur and students. All communication, including invoices, invitations to examinations, results and certificates will be sent directly to the students. After registration, Hull’s School will no longer be involved in any dealings between Cambridge ESOL and the students.

Please note that Cambridge ESOL only assigns examination appointments upon receipt of payment.

All our EC1 students prepare for the Pearson IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) French examinations, which take place in April and/or May.

The IGCSE French examination consists of two components:

  1.  April
  2. Listening/writing: Date to be determined

All students enrolled in French classes will be automatically registered for this mandatory examination by Hull’s School.

Examination fees

Please note that the fees for external examinations are not included in the yearly school fee or in the miscellaneous costs. Invoices for the local Pearson fee must be paid before the date of the first examination. Invoices for the local Cambridge ESOL fee must be paid upon receipt.

I enjoyed and value the college at Hull's school for its profound education and the incomparable location in the heart of Zurich.
