Examinations

Examinations

There are two important sets of examinations during the EC4 school year:

  1. External IGCSE and AS-level examination resits in January.
  2. External end-of-year Pearson IGCSE, AS-level and A-level examinations in various subjects in April, May and June. (Certain A-level examinations may also be taken in January.)

The results of these examinations determine admission to universities.

Regular classes do not all take place as usual during these examination periods. Students and parents will be provided with a detailed timetable for each of the periods in advance.

External examinations

Cambridge ESOL C2 Proficiency (CPE) examination

Our EC4 students prepare for the Cambridge ESOL C2 Proficiency (CPE) examination. Students who earn the C2 Proficiency (CPE) certificate are deemed to have a level of English similar to that of native speakers. The C2 Proficiency (CPE) is the highest level general Cambridge certificate.

The C2 Proficiency (CPE) examination consists of two components:

  1. Oral: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL
  2. Listening/writing/reading/grammar: Date to be determined by Cambridge ESOL
Registration

Students register for the C2 exams in class with the help of their teacher. On registering, students must provide a valid email address. Email will serve as the main form of communication between Cambridge ESOL in Winterthur and students. All communication including invoices, invitations to examinations, results and certificates will be sent directly to the students. After registration, Hull’s School will no longer be involved in any dealings between Cambridge ESOL and students.

Please note that Cambridge ESOL only assigns exam appointments upon receipt of payment.

Pearson Edexcel

Pearson IGCSE examinations

Some EC4 students may be preparing for Pearson IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations, which will take place in May and/or June.

The dates and times of the examinations will be posted here once they have been announced by Pearson.

Pearson A2 (A-level) examinations

The A2 examinations represent the second half of a complete A level. All EC4 students prepare for the A2 examinations, which take place either in April, May and June, or, exceptionally, in January.

The dates and times of the examinations will be posted here once they have been announced by Pearson.

Registration for all Pearson examinations

Hull’s School will automatically register students for examinations in the subjects of the classes in which they are enrolled. Students will receive a detailed personal timetable about one month in advance, which will include the dates, starting times and venues for each examination. They will also receive an invoice for the fees, which must be paid prior to sitting the first examination.

EC4 students who wish to resit an IGCSE or AS examination they wrote in EC2 or EC3 will need to register for the examination themselves, using the form provided them by their Year Head.

Examination fees

Please note that examination fees are not included in the yearly school fee or in the miscellaneous costs.

I enjoyed and value the college at Hull's school for its profound education and the incomparable location in the heart of Zurich.
