The first college in Switzerland to offer an English Year 10 programme.
November 2023 at Hull’s School was a month filled with remarkable achievements and engaging educational activities. The school’s Art and Design department showcased its creativity, while the Game Theory Club explored strategic thinking. A significant highlight was the celebration of the first Aldous Huxley Day by the Aldous Huxley Centre Zurich on November 22nd, paying tribute to the influential writer’s legacy. Academic excellence was celebrated as Nikki Fox from Pearson Edexcel honored students with awards for their outstanding achievements in IGCSE examinations, marking Hull’s School’s students as top achievers in Switzerland and Europe in several subjects.
Field trips enhanced learning experiences, with EC4 students visiting the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, and EC3 and EC4 Physics students exploring the Paul Scherrer Institute. The Model United Nations event in Oxford saw proud participation from Sophia Strolz and Laure Gastaldo, exemplifying Hull’s commitment to global awareness and diplomacy. Additional educational tours included EC3’s visit to the Zentralbibliothek Zürich, further enriching the students’ learning landscape. The school’s vibrant club life was highlighted through the activities of the Philosophy and Chess Clubs, alongside a commendation for the students’ festive spirit in decorating the school for Christmas.
December 2023 continued the trend of dynamic educational and extracurricular engagements. The Hull’s School Clubs Showcase Event celebrated the diverse talents and interests of students, from art and history enthusiasts exploring Picasso’s works to the festive activities orchestrated by the Student Council during Samichlaustag. Collaborations with external entities like the Zurich Film Festival provided students with invaluable insights into filmmaking, while the EC4 Biology trip to the Life Sciences Learning Center introduced them to advanced genetic fingerprinting techniques. The spirit of competition and creativity was alive with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award activities and the Christmas Card Competition, showcasing the artistic talents within the student body. The month rounded off with a joyous Skating Day, celebrating the winter season.
January 2024 set the stage for future academic planning and celebration, with Department Heads and teachers guiding EC2 students through A Level subject choices, and the announcement of the Hull’s School Ball set for June 28th, 2024, promising a grand event at Lakeside, Bellerivestrasse, Zurich. These months at Hull’s School were marked by educational achievements, creative expression, and community engagement, reflecting a rich and diverse school culture.
Hull’s School not only pushed my international career goals, but during this period of my life, I connected with many fascinating and inspiring colleagues, who became very close friends and helped me build my professional network.
